CROWNS – The Crown Gospel Music Awards are an initiative of The World Gospel Powerhouse. Over the years, the brand has grown and evolved into a well-respected platform for Gospel artists from all over South Africa and the whole African continent. The CROWNS have unearthed a number of new artists who have now become household names. Through 33 categories, the CROWNS have managed to challenge Gospel artists to be creative, evolve and ensure that the genre becomes bigger and more exciting. On the 26th November 2017, the CROWNS – SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards will be celebrating 10 Years since its inception.
“This year the Awards will take place on the 26th November 2017 at the Durban ICC, but we invite everyone to start preparing now for this grand event since we will have celebrations, commencing from Thursday the 23rdNovember 2017, prior to the Awards evening. For the first time ever on Thursday (23 November) that will precede the Crown Awards evening, the World Gospel Powerhouse will host a service, an event of high magnitude that will feature renowned local and international speakers”, says Zanele Mbokazi, founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards.
On Friday, 24 November, the 2nd Christian Expo Africa will kick off at the Durban ICC. This Expo will host a range of exhibitors who will showcase all things Christian – from literature, books, Music, DVDs, Clothing and other related merchandise and services. The Industry Awards will take place on Saturday night (25 November). We urge all Gospel Music lovers and supporters to make earnest preparations and even put in leave notices from work for the Monday after the Crown Awards weekend, adds Zanele Mbokazi.
The Crown Awards were founded 10 years ago and a few weeks ago. They recently hosted its 10th-year celebrations through a Crown Awards Blestival which featured amongst others, the following artists: Benjamin Dube, Rebecca Malope, Putuma, Sgwili, Shongwe, Andile kaMajola, Dumi Mkokstad, Mawat, and Tebogho. The Blestival also saw the launch of Gospel Musical #Maria which starred Jessica Nkosi and Brian Temba in its lead roles. The musical tells the story of the life of the Lord Jesus Christ, through his mother Maria.
